Its operating subsidiaries offer health administration and risk management solutions to the healthcare funding industry. Additionally, the company provides a wide range of complementary services to its medical scheme clients, including IT solutions, transactional switching, and specialized disease management.
One of AfroCentric Group's key assets is Medscheme, one of South Africa's largest medical scheme administrators and managed care providers, managing over 3.2 million lives through its 15 client medical schemes in South Africa. It is the largest black-owned medical scheme administrator and has a national footprint with over 3,000 employees in South Africa. Moreover, Medscheme has expanded its presence to several other African countries and provides services to European and UK-based health insurance companies.
AfroCentric has recently made strategic acquisitions, including 100% ownership of Pharmacy Direct, a courier pharmacy, and Curasana, a pharmaceutical wholesaler, as well as a 26% stake in Activo Health, a distributor of generic medicines and nutraceutical products in southern Africa. These acquisitions are expected to enhance the group's earnings and provide greater access to the healthcare delivery value chain and visibility in relevant markets.
Founded in 2008, AfroCentric is dedicated to the core philosophy of transformation and empowerment. It prides itself on being one of the few black-owned and controlled companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and holds a level 2 B-BBEE rating, making it the most empowered health-related business on the JSE.
