With a foundation dating back to 1972, they have become the leading professional association for infection preventionists (IPs) with over 15,000 members. Their mission revolves around providing better care to promote improved health at a reduced cost, ultimately aiming to prevent infections. The majority of APIC members are affiliated with acute care settings, although an increasing number are involved in ambulatory and outpatient services and other practice settings where infection prevention and control are becoming crucial responsibilities for healthcare personnel.
