BOOM POW WOW is a startup aiming to address the lack of representation of children with disabilities in the toy industry. With a slogan of "Finding an inner superhero within oneself!" the company focuses on empowering these children through clear and customized representation in the toys they play with. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in The Netherlands, the original idea was inspired by Medical Makers, a social entrepreneurship philanthropy firm, and social NGOs, along with various stakeholders and partners. Under the guidance of Julielynn Wong, MD, MPH, FACPM, a Public Health, Occupational, Aerospace & Preventive Medicine Physician, the startup aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of 2030 and Harvard Business Social Initiative.
The company's flagship product, the BoomPowWOW Box, is a system designed to adapt card and board games to enhance children’s hidden superpowers. It also serves as an open-source toolkit, enabling people to develop extensions and new applications without the need for high-technology tools. The startup received a €200.00K Venture Round investment on 25 September 2017.
With a focus on Education, Gaming, and Information Technology industries, BOOM POW WOW aims to revolutionize the way children with disabilities are represented and empowered in the toy industry, catering to a market of 150 million kids worldwide.
