Discovery Lab (Tulsa Children's Museum)

Discovery Lab is a Tulsa-based children's museum with a mission to inspire children, connect families, and build community through exploration, programming, and play. Established in 2007, the museum initially operated as a mobile institution before opening its first physical location at the Owen Park Recreation Center in May 2013, catering to over 130,000 children and families annually, including 30,000 through outreach. In early 2022, Discovery Lab expanded to a 57,000-square-foot facility near Gathering Place park, projecting to impact over 300,000 individuals annually.

Discovery Lab serves as an educational resource for Tulsa, offering outreach museum classes to area schools, being a field trip destination for Tulsa Public Schools as a Center for STEAM Education, and advocating for the development of executive function and process skills through its exhibits and programming, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), as well as health and wellness. The institution has been a member of esteemed organizations such as the Oklahoma Museum Network, the Oklahoma Museum Association, the Association of Science and Technology Centers, the Association of Children’s Museums, the American Alliance of Museums, and Arts Alliance Tulsa.

The museum caters to families regardless of income, education, or ethnicity, with over 25 percent of field trip students and 40 percent of outreach programs benefiting from free or reduced rates. Furthermore, its hands-on, informal learning experiences have been shown to positively impact reading readiness and school success. The most recent investment in Discovery Lab was a grant investment received on 27 September 2023. While the specific investors for this last investment round are not disclosed, the organization's commitment to fostering curiosity and education in children is evident in its continuous growth and impact on the community.
