e-tec electronic GmbH is Austria's leading brand electronics discounter, founded in September 1997 by Bert Kuhn. From selling used PC systems in a small garage in Attnang/Puchheim, the company quickly expanded due to the rising demand for PC systems and components. It launched the first online shop for IT products in 2000, receiving various awards for its pioneering efforts in e-commerce. In 2003, the company relocated its headquarters to Timelkam and opened the flagship store "Data World." It further expanded by opening its first e-tec branch in Linz in 2005, introducing the concept of "Click & Collect" long before it gained widespread popularity.
In 2011, e-tec expanded its product range to include home electronics, listing over 45,000 items in its online shop, a number that continues to grow. The acquisition of the insolvent DiTech GmbH in 2014 marked a significant milestone. According to the German EHI Retail Institute, e-tec electronic is the largest Austrian e-commerce company in the computer and consumer electronics sector from 2015-2018. In 2018, Raiffeisen Landesbank Oberösterreich made a substantial investment, acquiring 55% of the company, while the remaining shares are held by the founder and management.
