Egis Pharmaceuticals PLC is a leading generic pharmaceutical company in Central Eastern Europe, with a strong presence in 100 countries. As a member of Servier, a global pharmaceutical group, Egis generated net sales of EUR 631.7 million in the 2022/2023 business year. The company sells its products under Egis' brand names in 18 countries through its network of subsidiaries and representative offices. Egis focuses on treating diseases of the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, as well as providing modern treatment solutions in diabetology, skin, and wound care.
One of Egis' notable achievements is the launch of its first biosimilar monoclonal antibody (mAb) product in 2013, the first of its kind in the European Union. Since then, Egis has launched 3 more biosimilar drugs. Additionally, the company is committed to innovation and allocates more than EUR 45 million yearly to research and development. Its R&D activities primarily focus on high-quality, value-added branded generic products.
Over the last 20 years, Egis has invested more than EUR 770 million in improvements, including the modernization of finished product manufacturing processes and the establishment of state-of-the-art R&D centers. Notable developments include the capability for the development of drugs substances and finished products with significant biological activity in very small doses in Budapest, as well as the comprehensive modernization of the traditional technology of active ingredient manufacturing.
Recent large-scale developments at Egis' site in Körmend include the inauguration of a new galenic plant in September 2019 and the completion of a major extension of the packaging plant, along with the establishment of the capacity to manufacture special medicines, particularly oncology products, in 2021 autumn.
