Description and Expertise: enetrade,INC. was established in April 2017 as a subsidiary of elDesign, a power consultancy company founded in 2014 by CEO Kenichi Sakagoshi. JAPEX, a Japanese oil & gas company, has a minor equity stake in enetrade. Based in Tokyo, Japan, the company's core focus is to create "Power Trading Innovation" and cater to the needs of power suppliers and retailers by providing stable power supply, risk management, and tailor-made solutions for sustainable development in the power industry. enetrade primarily focuses on the trading of domestic physical wholesale power, with a volume of 1 million kW in the current fiscal.
Until recently, the company faced challenges in hedging its physical exposure due to the unavailability of financial derivatives. However, with TOCOM and soon EEX launching Japan power futures, enetrade has recruited a team of professionals to handle this specific activity. Notably, Managing Director Yoshi Arimizu has extensive experience in trading oil and gas, uranium, coal, and copper, while senior trader Cedric Daubord has a background in the gas & power sector, and trader Kotaro Hoshino previously worked in the brokerage industry. Additionally, quants Kairi Takeda have built pricing models of financial products with several large securities firms in Japan.
