GKSS - Göteborgs Kungl. Segel Sällskap was founded in 1860 and is one of Sweden's largest sports associations with approximately 2700 members. The club is a leading force in the field of sailing.
The club's activities are centered around yacht racing, training, and education, primarily targeting youth but also catering to adult sailors seeking further development. Located in Långedrag, GKSS' base encompasses its clubhouse, changing rooms with showers and sauna facilities. The clubhouse serves as a focal point for many active members year-round and also houses the Seglarkrogen restaurant.
Throughout the summer, the club hosts yacht races, sailing camps, training, and various corporate events. In the winter, training groups convene to plan for the upcoming season's race schedule, discuss tactics, route choices, and interpret yacht racing rules. The association also conducts extensive training programs, instructor education, and a number of club nights for its members during the winter.
On Marstrand, GKSS operates the Korvetten branch, serving as a regatta base and a gathering place for competitors and officials. The facility also accommodates elite sailor training camps and is utilized for conference activities at other times. The property includes the Shanti Shanti restaurant.
Marstrand hosts several significant events, such as the GKSS Match Cup Sweden, 44Cup Marstrand, Marstrandsregattan, and Sepemberseglingen, all organized by GKSS. Æolusön, GKSS' own island since 1968, situated in the southern archipelago of Gothenburg, hosts sailing camps for children and youth throughout the summer.
The GKSS AccessAbility Center provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to engage in various aspects of boating, catering to both children and adults.
