Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF) aims to empower youth by connecting them to Afro-Latin culture and heritage to build a diverse, vibrant Latin Quarter and a just, equitable Boston. Launched in 1991 to address challenges in the Hyde/Jackson Square neighborhood, it now operates as Boston’s Latin Quarter. HSTF engages 700+ children, youth, and college students annually through Jóvenes en Acción, College Success, and arts education, reaching 4,000+ community members with artistic performances, cultural events, and organizing efforts.
Jóvenes en Acción provides after-school and summer programming for youths in grades 8-12, focusing on Afro-Latin Arts, Education and Career Pathways, and Civic Engagement and Youth Organizing. College Success offers pre-college support, Spring and Summer Academy for rising first-year college students, and ongoing coaching. Creative Development and Community Engagement strengthen the neighborhood through advocacy, creative placemaking, and Afro-Latin arts education.
