The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) was established in October 2006 through the consolidation of several related organizations, including The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), The Center for the Advancement of Genomics (TCAG), The J. Craig Venter Science Foundation, The Joint Technology Center, and the Institute for Biological Energy Alternatives (IBEA). Today, JCVI has united these entities into a large multidisciplinary organization dedicated to genomics. With over 250 scientists and staff, as well as more than 250,000 square feet of laboratory space distributed across Rockville, Maryland and La Jolla, California, JCVI stands as a prominent leader in genomic research.
