About Kuwait Airways

Kuwait Airways: A Journey Through Aviation History

Kuwait Airways (KU: IATA, KAC: ICAO), the national carrier of the State of Kuwait, has a rich history dating back to its birth in 1954. Initially serving a limited network, it faced economic hardship before the government of Kuwait took full ownership in the 1960s.

The airline entered the jet age in 1962, rapidly expanding its route map and modernizing its fleet to keep pace with aviation requirements. However, it faced a setback during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, which led to the destruction of its premises and 15 aircraft.

After the Liberation of Kuwait, Kuwait Airways was relaunched and embarked on a strategy to expand its operations globally. By 1998, its fleet consisted of 17 aircraft, reflecting the company's resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Notably, in 2016, the airline was formally registered as a private company, undergoing a significant rebranding to reflect its modernization and transformation.

With a strong foundation and a renewed focus on growth and modernization, Kuwait Airways is poised to leverage its heritage while embracing the opportunities and challenges of the aviation industry in the 21st century.
