LIFESPAN Services is a nonprofit organization that has been operating since 1973 with a mission to provide support and opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Initially founded to create an educational day program for children with disabilities, the organization has expanded its programming to include adults and has extended its outreach to cover more than 20 N.C. counties.
The organization, formerly known as St. Mark’s Center, changed its name to LIFESPAN Services in 2000, signifying its commitment to offering lifelong support for individuals with disabilities. It currently serves over 1,000 individuals of all ages through a wide range of 100 programs and services. Its initiatives aim to help these individuals experience life's everyday moments and milestones, including their first steps, jobs, and independent bus rides.
