Nordita is the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics focusing on basic areas of theoretical physics. Their mission includes scientific excellence, Nordic collaboration, and support for physics education and research training.
Founded in 1957 as the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nordita is now jointly run by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University in Sweden.
Initially funded by the five Nordic countries through the Nordic Council of Ministers, Nordita is currently supported by the Council, the Swedish Research Council, and its host universities.
Operating in the education industry, Nordita aims to create a Nordic "critical mass" in specialized areas of theoretical physics and promote international collaboration for cutting-edge research in the field.
