SASREF is the Saudi Aramco Jubail Refinery Company located in the heart of Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical industry, Jubail Industrial City. It has been a key player in the industry since its inception in 1981. The refinery, designed for export purposes, was established through a joint agreement between Pertomin and Shell, with construction commencing in 1982 and completion in 1984. King Fahad Bin Abdulaziz inaugurated the refinery on the 23rd of December 1986, marking it as one of the most modern refineries globally. Noteworthy milestones include the debottlenecking from 250,000 to 305,000 barrels per day in 1988. The ownership of SASREF has evolved, with Saudi Aramco acquiring full ownership in September 2019.
