Skytel Group is a Mongolian corporate of information technology companies, headquartered at Skytel Plaza in Chinggis avenue, Ulaanbaatar. In terms of subscribers, Skytel is the 3rd largest mobile telephone services provider with a quarter of the market share. As of 2021, Skytel was ranked 68th largest company in Mongolia by the composite of revenues, profits, assets, and taxes.
Skytel Group was founded in 1999 and was a joint venture between Mongolian and Korean firms. In December 2010, Skytel became a 100% indigenous enterprise with equal shareholders of Altai Holding and Shunkhlai Holding, two of Mongolian largest privately held firms. Skytel provides broadband internet, IPTV services through Skymedia, and OTT video on demand services through SkyGO. The company also owns 50% of Skynetworks, a nationwide Fiber optic infrastructure operator.
This presents Skytel Group as a well-established telecommunications company with steady market positioning and a broad spectrum of services. With its indigenous ownership structure and diverse service offering including IPTV and OTT, Skytel appears to have a strong foothold in the Mongolian telecommunications and information technology market, potentially offering lucrative investment opportunities for interested venture capital firms.
