Tea Research Association (TRA Tocklai)

Tea Research Association (TRA Tocklai) is a pioneering organization, established in 1911 with a focus on revolutionizing the tea industry. TRA Tocklai, also known as the oldest and largest tea R&D organization globally, has been instrumental in enhancing the commercial viability of the tea industry in India. Its extensive contributions include the development of over 200 tea cultivars, seed stocks, agronomic practices, and innovations in tea manufacturing practices, CTC, and rotorvane.

Additionally, TRA Tocklai's influence extends beyond India, benefiting tea-producing countries in East Africa and Sri Lanka. Funded by the industry and the Government of India, TRA Tocklai holds significant responsibility, accounting for 75% of Indian tea production and operates across 9 states in India.

The organization's impactful work is driven by a dedicated team of scientific research personnel, with strong support from its administrative team. With its headquarters at Tocklai Tea Research Institute and registered office in Kolkata, TRA Tocklai is managed by the Council of Management, with members elected every three years from the industry, and representation from the Government of India.
