The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is a coalition of over 50 organizations representing Black individuals from across the United States. Their unified vision aims to drive policy change and empower communities to create a future of freedom, justice, and equity. Established in 2015, M4BL has gained momentum in response to the visible violence against Black communities. They aim to address systemic issues beyond police brutality, encompassing underinvestment, incarceration, environmental injustice, and economic exploitation.
The M4BL has developed a platform articulating their collective aspirations and tangible resources for advocacy work. The platform outlines over 30 policy priorities, providing policy briefs and resources for implementation. The organization seeks to go beyond mere reform, striving for genuine transformation and accountability from elected leaders. Their focus on local, national, and international policy objectives has attracted support, with a grant investment from New Media Ventures in July 17, 2019.
Emphasizing the importance of shaping their own agenda, the M4BL Policy Table aims to support the development and implementation of uncompromising policy objectives to cease state-sanctioned violence against Black communities. Their efforts also extend internationally, leveraging human rights mechanisms to address systemic violations and foster global connections.
