Top Tutors for Us is an educational platform dedicated to connecting BIPOC high school students with culturally relevant tutors, aiming to break down educational barriers. The startup designs standardized test prep programs and curriculums for predominately Black public schools. These curriculums, in conjunction with supplementary private tutoring services, aim to provide equal opportunities for the younger generation to succeed in the college admission process.
The founder, Angelica Harris, is a highly qualified individual who recently received her Masters in Computer Science, marking her third degree from Washington University. Her personal journey, from being offered over $1.5 million in college scholarships and admittance to top universities, to significantly improving her ACT score (from 16 to 32, with an impressive 35 in Math within 7 months), motivated her to establish Top Tutors for Us. Observing the low percentage of Black students at top universities during her undergrad years, she decided to create a business dedicated to helping Black students become competitive applicants.
