The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is an international organization representing the Uyghur people's collective interests both in East Turkestan and abroad. Established in 2004 in Munich, Germany, it was formed after the merger of the East Turkestan National Congress and the World Uyghur Youth Congress. The WUC advocates for the Uyghur people's right to determine the political future of East Turkestan through peaceful, nonviolent, and democratic means.
The WUC operates as a democratic organization, with its leadership democratically elected by participants from around the world in the General Assembly, serving three-year terms. It maintains close contacts and working relations with numerous Uyghur organizations worldwide, focusing on peaceful promotion of human rights, religious freedom, and democracy for the Uyghur people in East Turkestan.
The organization's headquarters are in Germany, and its last investment was a grant received on 10 July 2023 from The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity. The WUC stands as a significant player in advocating for the Uyghur community's rights on the international stage, epitomizing the ongoing movement for peaceful change in East Turkestan.
