Description: The Lega Italiana per la Difesa degli Animali e dell’Ambiente (LEIDAA) is a non-profit association founded in 2002, operating in Italy. Recognized by the Ministry of Environment with decree no. 231 of 2012 and by the Ministry of Health with decree no. 9 of 2013 for the allocation of pets subject to seizure or confiscation under the Penal Code. It has over 50 sections nationwide, advocating for animal rights and environmental protection, aiming to foster a new animal and environmental awareness. LEIDAA works through communication, education, and constructive dialogue with institutions to achieve this goal. Additionally, it cares for abandoned dogs, cats, and other animals in Italy, ensuring safe placements and adoptions while combating animal violence and exploitation. The volunteers across Italy, and its body of Zoophile Guards, are involved in the maintenance and welfare of these animals. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LEIDAA’s operations adapted to directly support affected families nationwide for nearly two years. The association is also dedicated to the recovery of wild animals through its own CRAS management in northern Italy. It has participated in numerous operations to seize animals illegally imported to Italy or captured by poachers in violation of laws and regulations.
