Marklund is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1954, dedicated to making everyday life possible for individuals with profound developmental disabilities. The organization serves a wide range of age groups, from infants to adults, providing specialized care and support for those with developmental disabilities and special health care needs.
Claire Haverkampf, R.N., and her husband, Stan, established Marklund when they began fostering Mark William Lund, a child born with Down Syndrome and severe cardiac complications. Over the years, the organization has expanded to four campuses, including the Marklund Hyde Center and adult residential campus in Geneva, the Marklund Philip Center and Marklund Wasmond Center in Bloomingdale and Elgin, and the Marklund Day School that offers specialized education for children with multiple medical needs and those on the autism spectrum.
