Sentio is a biotechnology startup that has developed a groundbreaking surgical access tool called Sentio MMG®. This innovative technology is designed to precisely and safely identify motor nerve roots and their peripheral extensions during surgical procedures.
Unlike traditional neuromonitoring electrodes, Sentio MMG® smart-sensors utilize accelerometer technology to detect electrical signals non-invasively. These sensors measure mechanomyography (MMG) activity, which corresponds to the mechanical “twitch” of muscle contraction. Upon detecting MMG activity, the surgeon receives a ‘STOP’ alert, indicating the presence of a nerve. This approach offers intuitive, surgeon-directed guidance for safe access in various surgical applications.
Sentio MMG® is specifically tailored to enhance the safety of lateral transpsoas surgery, providing a more efficient method for nerve identification and mapping without the need for electromyography (EMG). The focus of the design was to create a reliable and non-invasive solution for improved surgical outcomes.
Founded in 2007, Sentio operates within the biotechnology and healthcare industries. The company received its Seed Round investment on 11 May 2010 from Ann Arbor Spark.
