One of the top causes of newborn deaths in these regions is hypothermia and infection. In India, an alarming statistic reveals that 1 in 3 babies are born at risk of hypothermia due to being low birth weight (LBW) and/or preterm (under 37 weeks). Bempu Health's flagship technology, the Bempu Hypothermia Alert Device, addresses this urgent issue. When a newborn's core body temperature falls below 36.5C, it is considered to be in a hypothermic state. The BEMPU TempWatch constantly monitors the newborn's temperature for one month, notifying the caregiver through an intuitive audio-visual alarm if the baby is hypothermic. This enables prompt action such as Kangaroo Care to prevent hypothermia-related illness or death. Bempu Health has garnered support from notable entities such as The Gates Foundation, The Canadian Government, Villgro, and Echoing Green, and was a finalist at USAID's Saving Lives at Birth Challenge.
