About Housing Works

Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS with a mission to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS. Through relentless advocacy, provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses, Housing Works fights for funding and legislation and ensures that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention information, and other life-sustaining services. Since 1990, they have provided comprehensive services to over 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS, including housing, healthcare, meals, nutritional counseling, mental health and substance use treatment, job training, and legal assistance. Moreover, Housing Works has pioneered the concept of social enterprise businesses, such as Housing Works Thrift Shops and Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, whose profits fund the parent organization's mission. In December 2023, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield made a $300.00K grant investment in the company. This investment signifies the recognition and support Housing Works has received from influential industry players, emphasizing the significance of their mission in ending homelessness and AIDS.
