Kitepower is a Dutch startup revolutionizing wind energy with its Plug & Play Mobile Wind Energy solution. The company, founded in 2015, aims to make green electricity accessible to all by creating cost-efficient and clean electricity through its mobile airborne wind energy systems. Kitepower's innovative technology, developed as a commercial spin-off from the kite power research group of TU Delft, replaces traditional rigid constructions with lightweight wings and smart controls.
Receiving a recent €972.78K equity crowdfunding investment on 22 July 2022 from Crowdcube, Kitepower is currently funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Fast Track to Innovation Program REACH. The conventional wind turbines, with their heavy blades and towering structures, are being challenged by Kitepower's lightweight tether system that connects an airborne kite to the ground. This innovative approach simplifies the design, reduces construction costs, and enables mobility in terms of location.
Kitepower's disruptive concept of airborne wind energy holds great promise for the energy, renewable energy, sustainability, and clean energy industries.
