Knudsen Engineering Limited is a manufacturing startup based in Canada, founded in 1981. The company specializes in the design and manufacture of sophisticated sonar instrumentation for various marine and defense applications, including hydrographic survey, dredging, sub-bottom profiling, deep oceanographic research, and naval fleet navigation. Knudsen has been a familiar face in the industry for three decades and is recognized for its pioneering use of digital signal processing (DSP), innovative high-performance products, and dedicated customer support. The company's product lines include a wide range of single beam echosounders, such as the Sounder Series for bathymetric survey systems, the Chirp Series for scientific and deep water survey/sub-bottom profiling, and the Pinger Series for shallow water sub-bottom profiling. Knudsen has recently expanded its product line to include naval navigation, specifically the 320N Fathometer for navy fleet retrofit and new ship builds, which has been identified within the U.S. Navy as the UQN-10 and chosen as the U.S. Navy 'Next Generation Fathometer'. Knudsen's facilities are located in Perth, Ontario, close to Ottawa, Canada's capital, and in proximity to lakes and rivers, providing field and customer training sites for the company. The company has experienced steady growth, exporting over 90% of its production and delivering over 130 systems to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Foreign Military Sales. Incorporated in the early 80s by the husband and wife team of Don and Judith Knudsen, the company has evolved from an engineering-driven R&D enterprise to a market leader within its specialized niche market. With an impressive track record and a focus on cutting-edge technology, Knudsen Engineering Limited presents an enticing investment opportunity for venture capitalists interested in the manufacturing and defense sectors.
