Nigeria-based NamPower, founded in 1964, is the national power utility company responsible for the generation and transmission of electricity in Namibia. With the mission of "Powering the Nation," the company plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the country by ensuring the availability, affordability, and accessibility of electricity.
NamPower operates three main power facilities: the thermal, coal-fired Van Eck Power Station outside Windhoek, the hydroelectric plant at the Ruacana Falls in the Kunene Region, and the standby diesel-driven Paratus Power Station at Walvis Bay. Its extensive and high-caliber transmission network is a significant asset.
In its recent funding endeavors, NamPower received a €20.00M grant investment on 24 December 2021 from KfW and the Federal Government of Germany. This investment underscores the importance of NamPower's role in energy sustainability and development in Namibia.
