Protembis GmbH, established in 2013, is a pioneering medical device startup headquartered in Aachen, Germany. It is at the forefront of developing a revolutionary catheter-based filter device specifically designed to offer Full Cerebral Embolic Protection during cardiac interventions such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures (TAVR/TAVI).
The flagship product, the ProtEmbo® Device, has shown promising results, reducing the risk of cerebrovascular events by up to 90% as per initial human trials conducted in 2017/2018. Despite its successful demonstration of safety and feasibility, the product is not yet commercially available.
Protembis has drawn significant investor interest, successfully closing an oversubscribed $10M Series A in 2018. Recently, a substantial €20.00M Debt Financing was secured from the European Investment Bank on July 1, 2024. This funding will facilitate the company's journey towards bringing its product to market maturity through further clinical trials in Europe and the U.S.
