Headquartered in Shanghai, China, the company has wafer fabrication facilities in Shanghai, Tianjin, Beijing, and Shenzhen. SMIC also has international manufacturing and service bases and marketing and customer service offices in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Taiwan China, as well as a representative office in Hong Kong China.

Founded in 2000, SMIC operates in the hardware, manufacturing, and semiconductor industries. The company recently received a significant $2.25B Post-IPO Equity investment on 18 May 2020. The investment was made by China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund (CICF) and Shanghai IC Fund II.
